I am a huge fan of his Swamp Thing so I decided to try some of his other works. The art is very adult but it is well in the scope of this work.

Alan Moore is one of the most critically acclaimed, and very arguably the #1 most acclaimed, writer for graphic novels and comic books. He has written such things as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell, and Swamp Thing, all of which have made a major stamp on the industry. And he has also written Lost Girls, a book of....well, porn.Lost girls follows the story of three well known female protagonists, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Wendy from Peter Pan, and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Moore reimagines the stories of these characters as sexual expression, as well as there current sex lives now that they've grown up (some more than others).The thing you have to realize is that Moore himself admits that these books are porn. Is only real qualification is that he wrote them to show that porn can have the same type of symbolism, motifs, and character depth of other, more critically acclaimed work gets. On that front, he more or less delivered. The new versions of the girls stories are very well done.So if you like decent writing and porn, this can make for some good disposable reading for you.

Decent art but a really bizarre use of the characters, not much of a story particularly. Disjointed more like a series of vignettes. The complete run has been collected since the single issues were put out. Not for everyone and like most these days not a comic for kids.Two stars for the water color type art- loss of three for scattered plot and lack of creativity for use of characters created by other people.

The art is great and all the stories have a very erotic component to them. Sometimes the overarching message or plot seems too subtle, and you feel like you are reading a collection of extremely short stories, completely unconnected to each other. Not the best of Mr Moore, but worth a read.

I kind of felt deceived; thought the book was a traditional book - you know, the one`s without pictures?

Different, entertaining concept of what has happened to our childhood fictional characters. This is real fantasy land! Worth having a read.

Assumed only hardbacks had been published. Didn't realize that it was a paperback.$40 a bit high for a comic book.

Now, yes, seeing a therapist should've been my first move, but as much as I wanted to seek counseling, I simply couldn't (and still can't) afford it. And I'm certainly not ruling it out as an option in the future, but for this particular time in my life, I needed something to guide me through my feelings and help me navigate through the terrible cycle of binging (and sometimes, purging) and into a peaceful, healthy place. I wasn't expecting to be "cured" by a single book either, but I was still desperate for some sort of basic direction. And, eating disorder aside, I also knew I didn't want to count points or calories for the rest of my life. I just wanted to eat like a normal person and not have to constantly freak out over food. I want to, dare I say it, live.This book has helped me so much, in so many ways, I'm almost out of words. (Almost... I still managed to think up a few.)Within the first couple of chapters, Dr. May quickly identified 3 eating behavior cycles (Overeating, Restrictive and Instinctive) and how, by taking small but meaningful steps, you can eventually move toward mindful, balanced eating. I personally followed the overeating and restrictive cycles for yeeears, even as I started losing weight.It was kind of painful to read certain paragraphs sometimes because some of the behaviors she talks about are identical to the ones I've experienced ever since I became aware of my weight as being an issue. While I'm thankful for dieting as a means of helping me shed 90 pounds, in the end, it really f***ed up my attitude toward and relationship with food.Within this book, you learn why it's important not to assign "good" or "bad" labels to certain foods, how & why obsessively tracking every last calorie or point can actually backfire (which it totally did, in my experience) and why you should never "punish" yourself or earn the right to eat certain foods by exercising (guilty as charged, once again).After getting schooled on how dieting screwed up my eating behaviors, Dr. May then walked me through how to eat more instinctively and mindfully. She explains how to reconnect with your natural hunger cues so that you only eat when you're hungry (mind-blowing, eh?) and when you do eat, you eat foods that both bring you pleasure and nourishment so you're left completely satisfied.She also talks about fitness and why you should pursue it for the points of bettering your health and feeling good, not out of guilt for eating food.I had so many "duh!" moments as I read this book. Everything Dr. May says about how and why you should eat and exercise is pretty simple, but it also made so much sense, which is why I found this book so comforting AND empowering. EWYL makes it perfectly clear that you don't have to struggle with food. You can eat and live a balanced, healthy, fulfilling life, without guilt or self-induced pressure.The last few chapters are designed for people who are more or less clueless about what kind of healthy foods to eat and how to start exercising, so I pretty much skimmed through those parts. She then closes the book with a ton of great recipes (her husband is a spa chef, so there ya go).Love, love, love this book. And glad I actually purchased it instead of checking it out at the library. There are so many "Mindful Moment" tips throughout the book that I made note of, for future reference. Like I said before, I am in no way "cured" by this book, so I feel good knowing that I can re-read certain paragraphs in the future whenever I start to doubt myself and feel anxious about eating.After reading this book, I've no doubt changed my tune about what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. While I preached for years (over 2, literally) about calories this and Weight Watchers Points that, I feel so liberated in giving those concepts the middle finger now, for the most part. Now, I know there are people who read this blog who are in fact tracking calories and/or points in order to meet and manage their weight goals, so please don't take this as a personal attack. I don't mean to offend and I certainly don't intend to dissuade you from your current process of weight-loss/management.As long as you feel your current approach to eating and fitness is balanced and healthy (and not stressing you out or causing unhealthy behaviors), by all means, keep it up!Am I thankful for Weight Watchers and calorie counting for helping me lose all of that weight? Of course! Doing so changed my life.But after reaching that long built-up "goal," I quickly became overwhelmed. "Can I be more 'free' to eat 'bad' foods more often? Do I still need to track this? Do I still have to work out extra hard to eat that? Can I just eat whatever I want?"While WW is quick to say that their program is not a diet and is indeed a lifestyle change, I was starting to find that despite what I said 90 pounds ago, I can't (and simply don't want to) count points for the rest of my life. But I still want to be healthy. EWYL showed me that there is indeed a middle-ground."Yeah right, Tam. You're just using this book as an excuse to eat junk and not feel guilty about it." Did I at first? Yeah, maybe a little bit. But as I read on, I realized that that's soooo not the goal of the book at all. And really, it doesn't take long to feel the effects of eating not-so-nutritious food. I don't feel like I have to eat healthier foods. I'm in a place now where I truly enjoy them; eating better leaves me feeling better. But am I going to lash myself, verbally, mentally and physically next time I have a piece of not-so-nutritious cake? Heck no! One of my favorite Mindful Moments (out of like, 30):"When you are free to eat whatever you want, food quickly loses its power over you. You are able to eat anything, without eating everything."One of Dr. May's main messages is learning how to be in charge, not simply "in control." It's a message that resonates throughout the whole book and I'm happy to say that I'm finally learning what it means (and feels like).So, do I recommend this book? Well, of course I want to say, "YES! YES! YES! EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK!" but I know that it is indeed not for everyone. But if you feel that you might be caught in an eating and/or exercise cycle that is constantly leaving stressed, guilty and/or hungry, I would definitely invite you to at least check out the EWYL Blog and even download the book's first chapter (PDF). If you feel an immediate connection with the material (*raises hand*), either head to the library or make your way to Amazon.When I first sought out support for my binge eating, the results were a bit overwhelming. And there are indeed a ton of other books out there on similar subjects, so I'm glad I found this one. Dr. May's tone didn't intimidate or annoy me, which was something I expected for some silly reason. She doesn't get overly preachy or contradictory; she simply speaks from her own experience (as well as the experiences from others) and provides you with simple, truthful knowledge aimed at giving you what you need most: help and support.Thank you, Dr. May. If this book helped me, I'm confident that it's helped others and will continue to do so.

A whole new way of living. After being a weight watcher's member most of my adult life I was constantly thinking about food and what I could or could not have. I canceled trips, avoided various social situations because I felt eating on plan would have been too hard. Michelle May has found a way to eat that makes sense without constantly obsessing about food. I highly recommend her mindful approach.

From the book: "When I am Hungry, I will eat what I love. When I am bored, I will do something I love. When I am lonely I will contact someone I love. When I am sad, I will remember, I am loved." This is my daily mantra and has had the most incredible, believable and logical approach I've ever had to eating healthy. I've been a yo-yo dieter for over 40 years and lost a massive amount of weight (100+lbs) four times only to regain it when calorie counting, binge eating, starving, feeling deprived, feeling resentful, etc., all failed me along with prescriptions for appetite suppressants and fad diets. Learning to eat to resolve my hunger and knowing how to really understand hunger versus thirst, boredom or emotional eating has reversed the way I've lost weight my entire life. I have had eating disorders since my teens and here in my 50's I was on the path of insanity again once my weight reached almost 300lbs for the fifth time in my life with calorie restrictions, starvation, binging and purging) when I found this book that not only changed but likely saved my life. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stop the insanity and make peace with food. I no longer 'white knuckle' the dinner plate or resent others dining with gusto. Thank you.

I just received this book a few days ago after reading about it in a magazine article about weight loss. I have been on and off diets most of my life including Weight Watchers on and off for years. I have to say, Weight Watchers did help me with nutrition and healthy food choices. However, after getting thru about half of this book, I am so excited to simply get rid of the guilt about eating food and if it is "good" or "bad" and the "right" or "wrong" choice. I plan to follow the ideas in this book about "mindful" eating and paying attention to hunger signals along with choosing healthy choices as much as possible because I know it is good for my body. If I do make a choice here and there about a not so good choice, I will eat it without guilt because I know I am now"in charge" of the decisions I make and I am not being "controlled" on my choices by someone else and their "rules". I will make those choices because I will be tuned into my hunger signals and the mindful eating concept in the book.This book makes so much sense and the author is a doctor and also was a longtime "yoyo" dieter in the past. She teaches us all about her tips to follow an eating plan that we can follow without all the "guilt" and "rules" and cumbersome counting of calories and points just by tuning in to our bodies and mindset. So far, so good! What a concept that makes perfect sense!

I received a digital review copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.I loved the premise of the story and it definitely kept me entertained. I applaud Zaman for successfully piquing my curiosity enough to read the novel in just a few days.I found that there were too many named minor characters; it became difficult at the end to maintain the identities of the minor characters and their connection with the Captain and his family.I was disappointed that the two teenage girls in the story didn’t get to experience as much adventure as the boys. I was equally disappointed that it was always the girls who helped out the younger children. It would have been not only more realistic, but also less sexist if the older siblings—Adam and Layla—dressed their younger brothers, even if that meant that Zaid would have to wait for Adam.I felt like Nuh’s declaration that he had betrayed the Captain ended in an empty, unsatisfactory explanation. This was a great opportunity for Zaman to spin an intriguing subplot, an opportunity that she missed.I loved the language of this novel. Zaman’s voice is eloquent and poetic without being embellished. I see great potential in her writing, and I look forward to reading her future works.3.5 stars

The Moon of Masarrah by Farah Zaman is an enchanting throwback to the kind of adventure story I used to read as a young person--it is bright and breezy in the old Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys style, lighthearted, engaging mystery fiction for young people but with a postmodern twist. Ms. Zaman presents us with a welcome celebration of diversity within genre, giving her story a distinctly unique flavor--at least to those like myself unfamiliar with Muslim culture. The sprightly paced narrative transcends cultural barriers by introducing the reader to an engaging quartet of young people who soon find themselves unraveling secrets from the past. Ms. Zaman's quartet of protagonists are delightful and the mystery in which she has them entwined is fun and unpredictable. Her greatest achievement here, however, is the narrative's ability to transcend cultural boundaries, making the work accessible to readers from any walk of life.. While aimed primarily at the YA market (one presumes), Ms. Zaman's story draws one in the way the classic Agatha Christie type mystery always does, by thrusting us into a fascinating world and allowing us to experience it through her stimulating characters. Great fun for mystery fans and those who think they might like to become mystery fans. Do yourself a favor and add The Moon of Masarrah to your must-read list. You'll be glad you did.

And yet with so many thriller and mystery books out there, it's hard to know which are worth loading into your bag. “The Moon of Masarrah” had me wanting more, full of anticipation of “what is going to happen next” the enthusiasm of the kids wanting to solve this ancient mystery was overwhelming! Great summer reading for both adults and kids! My boys are going to love this adventure!

I received a digital copy for review. I also later bought it as a gift for my cousin who loves books like this. Overall, it was a nice, fun mystery, nicely executed, interesting characters. If I have one gripe it was keeping track of who's who early on when so many people are introduced. That, coupled with the fact that in one or two places the author mistakenly used the wrong name herself, did cause a bit of confusion at times. But that could hardly take away from the exciting thrill of this fun, Islamic fiction novel. A great buy and a worthy gift :)

The Moon Of Masarrah was so much fun to read. I am so happy that my dad got me this book. It is a book that I will definitely tell my friends about and encourage them to read. The reason why I liked this book so much is because while I was reading it I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. There was also enough description that it was easy to visualize what was going on. Overall this was a great book and I really enjoyed reading it.

Anna Hackett is an excellent writer. I really enjoy many of her series. That being said, I've had mixed feelings about this one. The books are fun to read, but the hectic pace of the action never left enough time for the romance aspect of the book to shine. The relationships seem rushed to me. This one was different. Maybe it's because the adventure stayed local or maybe it's simply that the characters have interacted the series before, but whatever the case, this one actually allowed the relationship to take center stage without leaving the action behind. As a result, I was much more satisfied with the book as a whole. I had been waiting for Blair and Luke's story for a while and I was very happy to see how well it evolved. Fans of the series will love it. Newcomers can start here, since it does stand alone, but they will do better to start from the beginning. There are too many characters making appearances here that need introducing. Either way, the book is highly entertaining.

I really don't know how Anna Hackett does it! Everything she writes is gold.Blair and Luke, shew! Hot, steaming, boiling chemistry these 2 have! We all knew it was coming after watching these 2 grumble and growl at each other over the past 3 books in this serie.As the others did, this one starts with marathon action and lots of pissing each other off.In this episode, ha ha ha, we have our H and h hunting down bad guys who stole cursed katanas and are committing hari-kiri - literally!Both main characters are in need of emotional healing, as well as some sexual healing - did I tell you their chemistry is flammable? *fans self*This is the 4th book in the series, and they just keep getting better!Book #1, Mission: Her ProtectionBook #2, Mission: Her RescueBook #3, Mission: Her SecurityBook #4, Mission: Her Defense

Team 52 Second in Command Blair Mason is used to taking care of herself but Las Vegas Detective Luke MacKade tests all of her control. They've been butting heads since the beginning but now they're forced to work together after several cursed Samurai swords are stolen. Like all of the Anna Hackett's books, Mission: Her Defense starts off with a bang and the action never lets up. I love diving into Hackett's books and just getting swept up in all the action and romance.I loved Blair from the first book of the series and I've been dying for her story because she's such a bada** woman. Blair is smart, strong, and a serious threat in a fight -- I pretty much have a girl crush on her. Getting close to other people is hard for Blair because she's afraid to lose anyone else in her life, so she pushes away Luke anytime he gets too close. But Luke is determined and I loved that he never gave up on Blair.Luke is the perfect possessive alpha and exactly what Blair needs in her life. Luke is never intimated by Blair and he's not bothered by her strength, instead he supports her and believes in her. On top of that, Luke and Blair have amazing chemistry and these two were burning up my Kindle.I'm loving the Team 52 books and I can't wait for Ty's book next because that little teaser about his story has me really intrigued!

I’d been looking forward to Blair’s book and while I did enjoy it, there were so many out of character aspects that it really did affect the book (also, we get it - everyone’s a badass, maybe a new adjective...?).Blair is supposed to be a no nonsense ex-marine working with a super top secret government black ops team but a number of the plot points require her to act out of character which she then does (she doesn’t phone in threats, threats requiring specific knowledge of her that should be impossible because of the build up of Team 52 are ignored and so on). She’s also a lone actor in terms of the team for the majority of the book which is generally driven by the LVMPD and the why of one huge plot point is just left hanging.As usual with an Anna Hackett book of this nature, the research is interesting and impeccable and it’s still a fun decent read but, especially in terms of character and coherence of the plot, this is a less solid offering than some of her previous work.

Another good story from one of my favorite authors. The dangerous artifacts in each of these books are fascinating. I liked Luke once he really started to see who Blair is. I'm glad he took the time to look below her hard surface. I like each member of Team 52 and look forward to Ty's story.

What a great addition to the series! Lots of story along with sexy parts, my favorite. A lot of exciting action. A very interesting plot, finding supernatural artifacts.Give this book a try, you won't be disappointed!

It was really fun watching Luke go after the woman he wanted. Tough, hard as nails, and not made for rainbows... none of that mattered when she fell into his crosshairs. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more.

Anna Hackett never disappoints and this book is another great one in this series. The chemistry between these two is hot and I could not put it down. LOVED IT!!

I'm a fan of lonely planet, but the information in this book is seriously out of date. Reccomends things that have been closed down for at least a couple years. Some hostels clearly reviewed when new have deteriorated and are no longer as pleseant as the book says. Try a guidebook from another company for this location or, if you want to stick with lonely planet, save some money and buy an older edition. It's probably the exact same, save for the cover.

I just came back from 3 weeks in Sabah and Sarawak, and this was the best tour book. Footprint comes in at #2.

Very interesting

Pretty useless guide specially the indonesian part. Lonely planets are my go to guide usually but this one was a waste of my money
