This book is a real eye opener if you have never ventured into meditation before. It is so easy to follow!Like all self help books, I read the bold print and skip over the stupid anecdotes they draw to make themselves feel relatable. I know they had to add it, but I don't have to read it.Give this book a go, and really give it a try. I'm too embarrassed to do it in front of anyone, so I wake up early to do it! It's a huge game changer if you're someone looking for some calm in your life.

Have you ever tried meditating and thought you weren’t good at it? Are you sporadic with your meditation practice because you just don’t have the time to do it? Have you ever wondered what is physically happening to your brain, your body while you meditate? Sharon Salzberg addresses these questions in her book “Real Happiness.”Salzberg starts by explaining what meditation is and what it isn’t. She then goes into the benefits and the science of meditation, which for me was probably my favorite chapter. Learning that the brain physically changes when you participate in mindful meditation was fascinating to me.From here the book is broken down into a four-week program with each week focusing on a different type of meditation. Each week is beautifully laid out; starting with an introduction and then going into the practice preview. I loved this because it’s nice to know ahead of time what the meditation session will be like. You don’t want to be thinking about the HOW when you should be focused on the meditation itself. Once you get a look at what’s to come, Salzberg introduces you to several different types of mediations for that week’s area of focus. She highlights or italicizes important concepts to remember, and provides tips and gentle reminders along the way. She ends each section with FAQs, reflections, and takeaways.I really enjoyed and learned a lot from this book. I loved Salzberg’s writing style and her organization. This book was just so well done. . .highly recommend!

This book was used as the text in a meditation class I attended. The change in my life since I began meditating is astounding. Off Ambien, Xanax, and my therapist discharged me from therapy because I no longer suffer from the intense anxiety I had been crippled with.

I usually spend some time discussing meditation with several of my Psychology classes, and the more interested students often ask for additional information (readings, audio tapes, etc.). I usually reply that there are a number of good resources available, but I finally found one that I can enthusiastically recommend without reservation. Sharon Salzberg's book describes everything from meditation (breathing, walking, body scanning, even drinking tea) to mindfulness (emotions, dealing with thoughts and feelings via recognition, acceptance, investigation and nonidentification) to loving-kindness meditation (cultivating compassion and true happiness, paying attention to ourselves and others with interest and care). She introduces a 28-day guided program of 20 minute meditation sessions. There is an extended discussion of the benefits of meditation. The book also comes with a CD with four guided meditations, which is among the best I've listened to. The book is what I've come to expect from Salzberg. Highly recommended!

I searched for a book on how to meditate without being discouraged for years. This is the very first book that helps to understand the process almost completely eliminating the frustration of learning process.

This book gives a great crash course in meditation with an emphasis on various practices. Less discussion about the glories of Meditation and more practical advice and practice. Study is good, but this gets you going with a weekly plan without forgetting any of the traditional ideology.

In the past, I always looked up to people who could meditate and center themselves. Something about those types of people told me they were living a life with focus and a plan but I could never put my finger on why they were like that. This book/session shows you how to meditate, plain and simple. I'm particularly fascinated by "breathing meditation". Included in the book is a CD with guided meditations.I started to see the benefits of meditation just after the first session: more focused, relaxed, centered. It also has helped me with other areas of my life. Sometimes while working out or playing w/ my daughter, my thoughts drift into other areas. Meditation helped teach me to "bring my focus back to the NOW!". Priceless!

Meditation is not just thinking as I was taught for years when I was going to the LDS church. This book explains what true meditation is and true meditation can bring a person much happiness. This book gave an accurate description of how to focus on breath and loving kindness mantras to help calm the habitual thoughts of the mind. This book also stated the benefits one can reap from meditating. Loved this book. Love how meditation has benefited me.

I really love this book, its layout is very well done. Especially for someone who has difficulty staying on task such as I do. I just recently started reading books about meditation and mindfulness and of the several I have read this seemed to be the best flow for the reader. Sharon also includes audio meditations which are wonderful. Very happy with this purchase.

Weighing in at under 70 pages for $19.95 isn't much value. It can be forgiven somewhat given the likely small distribution of this book - or if it fit into a total framework for Qualitative Research Methods as a couple chapters. I'd love to see all the volumes of that put together into one website or book and sold for a more reasonable price.McCracken does an excellent job summarizing the gathering and use of qualitative research through the long interview, including comparisons between quantitative and qualitative data, the pre-interview research process, formulating questions, and finally, the interview process. I would have liked to see more focus on the interview process, along with more do's and don't.This book was written at the scholarly level, which makes it somewhat obtuse for those not well-vested in the terminology (including myself). As an aspiring researcher and sometime interviewer at work, I'd like a more straightforward approach.In all, it covers the topic well, but only for those already familiar with it. For someone looking for practical advice on long interviews, I don't think this is the book.

This is a five-star work! It reads well, Prof. McCracken has a smooth and elegant style: Information is abundant and presented in an easily-digestible way. The book should be on the compulsory list of all first-year (aspirant) qual researchers and on the 'highly-recommended' list of those who pursue quan studies.

Freelance reporter Cook and Merge cofounders McCaughan and Ballance trace the history of the North Carolina–based record label that started in a bedroom and now releases some of indie rock's biggest names. The story is composed as a book-long conversation between McCaughan and Ballance (also founding members of Superchunk, hailed as the next Nirvana in the 1990s and one of Merge's first major hits) and myriad other voices from the music industry. Started in 1989 in Chapel Hill, Merge always put music and musicians first, with McCaughan and Ballance hand-stuffing the label's first seven-inch releases and eschewing contracts in an effort to keep things friendly. In a prime example of its dedication to artistic vision over pure profit, Merge took a gamble on Stephin Merritt and Magnetic Fields's ambitious three-disc opus, 69 Love Songs, when any major label would have balked. That record made numerous top 10 lists in 1999 and has sold more than 150,000 copies. While some of the label's artists may be beyond the scope of the casual music fan, bands like Magnetic Fields, Spoon and Arcade Fire demonstrate how vital Merge is to the indie rock landscape. Okay, I just found out about this book. I read some of the good reviews and some of the bad and figured for 15 bucks it was worth a try. And I am very glad I bought it!First of all, since Superchunk is such an integral part of the first two thirds of Merge's history, if you're interested in Superchunk you'll love this book. I was hoping it would go into that with a little depth and was very surprised to find out how much. There is also very honest appraisal of the band's fallen stock in the last decade.As for "how to run an indie label", this book is great. There's a lot in there about their early business model, how they handled increasing demand, why they didn't have contracts at first, what forced them to start contracts, how big labels treated both Superchunk the band and Merge the label, and much more. For the people who said this book is basically an advertisement, I was surprised to find people readily admitting to guilt - Superchunk admitting to remixing "Hyper Enough" for radio, Merge themselves pushing their artists on the world through definite non-indie channels.One of the coolest things about this book is if there's a Merge artist you like - from the obscure Butterglory to the ubiquitous Arcade Fire - there's good stuff in there, from both label and artist. Find out how Stephin Merritt annoyed Mac & Laura (it wasn't the major label jump) or Spoon's bass player suing Spoon for allegedly co-writing the first Spoon album (I have been a Spoon fan for over 10 years and never knew that; explains why they don't play songs from the first LP anymore!).To conclude: GOOD BOOK. LOTS OF GOOD PICTURES. NEEDED MORE PICTURES OF LAURA!

Preface: Superchunk is my favorite band. But this book -- told via a well-crafted string of dialogue from musicians, producers, A&R reps and friends -- is not just about Superchunk. It's about a community of musicians who got together with the sole purpose of creating and sharing music.("Come on, fellahs, let's get together and write a song!") I think of Merge as the big brother who lets you peek at his LPs when he's not looking and might let you make a mix tape to share with your peers. (That's how I learned about Iron Maiden as well as Anvil. Remember Tank: The Filth Hounds of Hades?) Through my interest in Superchunk (thanks to a mix tape from Todd -- forever grateful), I discovered a lot of other great bands on the label. Certainly it helps if you are a fan of any of the featured bands: Superchunk, Magnetic Fields, Spoon, Arcade Fire, Neutral Milk Hotel, Lambchop, Butterglory; but it's a great story and gives insight into the changing music industry (the decline of corporate rock). I also like to think Our Noise might inspire you to get off your butt and make Your Own Noise heard -- whether it's home-brewing, writing songs, RPGing, gardening, knitting whatever. (The perfect graduation gift? Required reading for Harvard MBA?) Now, perhaps this book would be boring to many people. After all, I grew up with Merge discovering the bands, seeing the shows (Halloween at State College changed my life). This is one of those books where I really did have fun reading. The book really try to help you understand the terms and provided flashcards to do so. The only problem I have is that the CD doesn't work and I bought the book as new. The book has a pretty comprehensive review session at the end of each section. Reading Chapter 1 and 2 really does help before moving on to other chapters.PROS+ Helpful+ Easy to read and find information+ Review sectionsCONS- CD doesn't work- Ordered new but came in the mail looking like it's been tossed around- Older edition of the book provide better flash cards than the Second edition. The flash cards on the Second edition feels cheap.

This is a good book for an introductory level course/self-study program. It breaks down the terminology by body system (one body system per chapter), so you know what parts of the body to relate the terms to as you progress through the book. This book is nicely organized, easy to follow, and easy to understand. It is extremely helpful if you are entering the medical field. It has flashcards in the back of the book that help you test yourself, but they are not indispensable. You could make them yourself. It is by far one of the best introductory texts available.

Riveting. My heart travels to my to my throat and I loose a breath and tears cloud my view. Words inspired through a dedicated author who uses his gift through the Holy spirit and a gracious God to reach lost souls such as me. Thank you Max . I am convinced God lives inside your pen.

I never cease to be amazed by the incredible gift God has given this author. His writing is easy to understand and yet challenging to readers who have spent a lifetime studying the scriptures. He can take any story from the Bible and make the reader see it in an entirely new light. I never get tired of reading his books.

I so enjoyed reading this book in the weeks leading up to Christmas. You could easily sit and finish it in one sitting, but I savored it a story at a time. I loved it so much, I bout 7 copies to give to family and friends. I am a big fan of Mac Lucado and have many of his books and devotionals and record his program daily. His message is always clear and applicable to my life. The stories in this book will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

A word smith like no other, Max warms the heart with thoughts in words we never began to think. Like, the Shepherd humming the Gloria's the angles sang! My heart over flows with love for my Lord when I read anything Max has written. God has surely blessed him with this gift.

A must buy to read during the Christmas/Advent season with family. Both of my kids never grow out of these stories and look forward to reading them together as a family every night.

I received this book as a gift from one the preschoolers in my Pre-K class. I'm already a fan of Max Lucado (the book A Love Worth Giving: Living in the Overflow of God's Love started it all - awesome book!!) so I was pretty excited to read it! I loved the book to say in the least! The story that stuck out to me most was "An Angel's Story". I've never really thought of all the events of Christ's birth through the eyes of Gabriel. Now of course this is what is imagined of how it might have been, we don't know really what all went on between God, Gabriel, and Satan. It was a really intriguing read though and very thought-provoking for me. The Candle Maker story was good, too, I thought (really, they all were good!). Most of the stories are quick reads and they all are encouraging showing us God's Love. Definitely worth buying! I bought it off amazon for my Kindle and maybe I can now share the hard copy book with someone else!

Max Lucado is so easy to read but so insightful. He always writes in a down to earth way that reflects what I'm wondering about Christ. I loved the Christmas Candle story and the way he wrote about what Joseph and Mary might have been thinking.

I have so enjoyed this collection! Short stories when I don't have a lot of time, and longer pieces when I do. These have helped me focus more on Jesus at Christmas as we have become more bombarded commercially. Because I love Christmas, this will become a book I'll often pick up year-round.

For many, this is enough ornamental wood type to take care of any needs.This has many of the fonts shown in "American Wood Type; 1828-1900" by the same author.This book only shows the fonts, and does not include the history or other information given in his other book.There are other fonts shown in the other book that are not included here, but still a worthy addition to any font fanatic's book collection.

Paperback is printed on low-quality pulp stock with lots of ink gain, rendering this less useful for scanning/study than it could be. Overall a poor reproduction, with most left-side pages having a white vertical hairline running through them. Keeping it for reference but I wouldn't buy again unless it was half the price.

I'm a graphic artist/illustrator and finding a unique vintage font is tough to come by. I purchased this book hoping that it would alleviate some of the pain from searching. So far, I am quite happy with this purchase. Lots of variety to chose from. Already implemented 5 fonts so the book has already paid for itself.

Interesting book, Kelly is one of the best authors on the subject.

Not quite the variety of font styles to see in the Dan Solo collection of fonts. But still interesting and useful.

If you want to read the history of wood type, "American Wood Type 1828-1900" also by Rob Roy Kelly would be a more worthwhile book. This book does what it was intended for and the font showings will assist in locating digital fonts that are the same or similar. This is a worthwhile book to have in your collection. The colorful wood type creations are helpful and enjoyable to see. You'll want to add this book to your type book collection.
