It's not perfect but has tons of content. One of the reviews said it has misinformation because it classifies humans as "carnivores", but some recent studie shave classified humans as such "based on the percentage of meat in the typical human diet". Well, I think is a very good answer for the audience the book is intended for. Why are some animals big and others small? Because there are all kinds of animals in the world, some big and some small. I think it's a perfectly valid answer. If your kid needs more information you can teach him about evolution for an hour if you want. You have to understand the purpose of this book is having a lot of questions and a lot of content. If they start going deeper into answers then that means less content. I rather have more questions with simple answers than a few questions with 3 pages of an answer.Finally, another reviewer seems to be confusing this book for something else and tries to show the "inaccuracies" but only comes off as a trying to display his knowledge of things. We get it, you know how to use wikipedia, guess what? This is a book for "KIDS", if you want to show off how much you know why don't you review a PHD book on physics?This is a great book with tons of content and my kid loves it. It's not perfect, but that's why you're there as a parent.

I love this book. I got it for my son's 4th birthday and we really enjoy going through it. I love the pictures and that it includes little experiments to show and teach the whys. So farm, we really enjoyed pages discussing melanin and skin. Firstly, it was a really good way to discuss why some people have different shades of skin. Children are wont to just spout off what they see, without care to feelings or other social implications. My son's best little friend in the neighborhood is African-American and when we discussed this section, he immediately mentioned her and said "Jane has more melanin than I do!". I am glad that he seems to understand that everyone is different from one another in this scientific/reason manner, but without judgement. . I love that this book helps me explain things in a way of scientific causes of his observations. I love it and I will be buying others in the series.

I bought this book for my 7 year old son in an effort to encourage reading and present new and exciting facts for him. There are lots of pictures and interesting facts, but I think this may have been better for him when he was a little bit younger. Kids are always asking "why" and many times we adults just don't have the answer, so this would be perfect for quenching those inquisitions. I would suggest this for kids between 3-5.

This was a great book to give my curious 4 year old. We read a few stories out of it every night. Our favorite so far is "why do your toes wrinkle in the bathtub." Lots of great information but at a level where my daughter can understand it. I will definitely look into buying the other books in this series.

From the very first time I opened the book, each time I turned a page it resulted in that page simply falling out of the book. Please see the pictures. Perhaps I got a defective book, but watch out.

My 6 year old is so curious about everything. Asking why this why that all the time is great, but sometimes I need a break! Well guess what? This book is awesome! It’s very easy to read, has a great table of contents to easily find the answer to a question, and very colorful. I will be buying more in this series. So many encyclopedia type books are boring, but this one is very pleasing to flip through, read, and understand.

When Amazon had a special on books I was looking for something to get for my daughter to eventually read. She's 3 months old right now so obviously this book is far too advanced but I've had a good time reading it. I was a really curious kid, always wanting to know why. This book answers a lot of questions I had as a kid, and tons more. I'm hoping she turns out to be curious like me. They also make a book of why 2, which I ordered right after receiving this book.

I used to read a lot of Amish novels, but haven’t read one for some time. I thought I would give this short story a try and see what the author can do with it.The book page gives the outline of the story, so I don’t need to go into that too much. As the book opens, Nancy is cuddling a baby, trying hard not to cry. The baby is the son of her cousin, Irene, and Nancy wishes the child were hers, and that reminds her of her lost beau. That night she has an unexpected encounter with a stranger in her bedroom, who turns out to be Luke Rapp, a friend of the family whose usual bedroom at the house just happens to be the one now occupied by Nancy.I was drawn into the story and enjoyed the author’s brief description of springtime, and became caught up in the give and take of family life and other relationships. Also interesting are the little snippets about Indiana that are scattered through the book, nothing major, just interesting bits and pieces that are woven into the story.Ms Maxfield has a subtle sense of humour and there are sentences dotted throughout the book that brought a smile to my face.This is a well-written and edited story. I was a bit disappointed it isn’t complete in itself but continues in another book, although I did know that when I bought it, but human nature is perverse. This is an enjoyable story of human relationships, family expectations and obligations, of deep feelings, and the freedom that forgiveness brings, with touches of humour and romance. Recommend, but remember it has a follow-up book.

The Mother's Helper by Brenda Maxfield: Nancy was almost engaged and then she found out that her sister was also seeing her boyfriend and that hurt her so bad because her sister couldn't believe that this was really happening. A letter came from her cousin Irene, Irene was going to have a child and she was in need for help because of two small children, she already had. Well Nancy at this time was so heartbroken that she needed to get away an what a better way to do it with leaving an helping were she was really needed. Many things will are going to happen so I want to stop for now and let you all get the book and read an enjoy as I did.I am now asking everyone that read an enjoys this book even if you don't everyone doesn't always like the same type of stories an they have their own feeling about a book an review help people know about books this way. I loved this book an have never found one of her books that I haven't had a great time reading and then telling others about the book. Please send a message to the author outside of writing a review because they need to know lots of time goes into a book, but they also need to be told.

He is staying with the same coy as in ad Nancy.Nancy has to find a way to truly forgive her sister, Susan and Luke has to find a way to deal with his father.A good start to a series of stories. I would recommend reading it.

Generally speaking, this is a good book. It is well laid out and written in a laid back, informal style which makes for easy reading. It has plenty of pictures of cheeses and completed accompaniments.The word "composing" is part of the title. There is a difference between composing a piece of music and playing someone else's music. I do feel that this book is lighter on the composing than it could have been and heavier on playing someone else's music.If you are looking for more of a recipe book for creating imaginative and adventurous accompaniments for cheese plates with some information about cheeses/cheese making this is the book for you. It has some incredible recipes that really do make you want to try them jut for the culinary adventure of it.Be advised, however, they focus a lot on pairing with local and more unique cheeses; cheeses which may not be widely available to everyone who purchases the book. They do offer suggestions for substituting with more mundane cheeses (like what you might be able to find at Earthfare or Whole Foods), but even those suggestions sometimes state the flavor profile of appropriate substitute cheeses rather than the type of cheese so if you are new to cheeses you may be left scratching your head wondering what a "nutty, mild" cheese is.If you are looking for a book "about" cheese, you may want to try to find something else. While this book does contain some very useful information about cheese it is usually just 2 or 3 pages at the beginning of each chapter before going into recipes for accompaniments.I was really looking for a book describing the various types/categories of cheeses, how they are made, what the flavor profiles of different cheeses are, and HOW to pair them (not just tell me WHAT to pair them with). For instance, if a cheese has an "A" flavor profile you should look for pairings that have a "B" flavor profile because "X,Y,Z". It does have some of this type of information, just not the amount I was really looking for.Overall, am I dissatisfied with this book? Not really. It is a good and useful book, just not quite what I was looking for. Again, its main focus is the Whats (recipes) with shorter blurbs about the Whys.I would say it is less on composing and more on playing.

Book is a good source of info regarding cheese and recipes for additional items on board. I was really hoping for more of a demonstrational book on the setting up of cheese plates - still looking for that one.

This book is essential for anyone who loves cheese and wants to make a spectacular cheese plate. Pairings are inventive and delicious. They can also serve as inspiration for your own pairings. I highly recommend it!

The most avid readers of World War II books know that resistance did occur (the best known is the Warsaw Ghetto uprising), but it was not enough to change the course of the genocide. The Brigade tells a different story. A 5000-man "Jewish Brigade" was formed from settlers in Palestine, but it was not until the waning days of the war, in November 1944, that the British sent it to fight. This account is told from the perspective of three soldiers and relies heavily on interviews the author conducted with them. It takes readers from the early days of the brigade, through the frustration of the soldiers who were sitting out the war, to the combat operations of the closing days of the war in Italy. The Jewish Brigade had little impact on the outcome of World War II, but its existence was critical to the future state of Israel. Almost from the very beginning, it was involved in smuggling Jewish refugees out of Europe and into Palestine. This book is not a standard military history, but is written more like a novel. I loved this book...totally riveting and the fact that it is a true story of some of the original "Inglorious Bastards" made it even more interesting. The courage of the Jewish soldiers and their fight to get in on the fight was inspiring. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in this part of history. The books is really well written. An untold story that is really worth a read.

I have read many books about WWII but was not familiar with the Jewish fighters that were finally allowed to go into Italy with the Allies. This book gives a lot of background about the political forces that were at work behind the scenes, first keeping them out of the war, and then allowing this unique group of soldiers to be formed and deployed near the end of the war. That was interesting, but what happened after the war is where the story gets even more intense as these men come to see what was happening to their people, the Jewish people, throughout Europe. I was so pleased they ended the book meeting up with these same men many decades later and telling the rest of the stories of their lives. Very well worth the time for readers wanting to get a wider picture of that terrible time in history.

This is not a historical fiction novel, although it may read like one. Blum has done the almost impossible task of digging out even the storylines from revealing sources. He has cobbled one excellent story from the stories of three separate real men, and the story appears to be of one thread. These very men and hundreds more just like them were responsible for the birth of the modern nation of Israel. Without the personal sacrifices of these men and many thousands more, the nation of Israel would have been stillborn. Thank God for these men!

The biblical history of the Jewish people is one of peaks and valleys, the valley of Egyption bondage, peaks of King David and Solomon, and the valley of the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities as recorded in the minor and major prophets. Then the oppression under the Romans followed by the diaspora. But where there was judgment and attrition, God always provided a remnant, and it is the renmant, the survivors, of WWII that made their way to Palestine. The Jewish Brigade was in the right place at the right time. By accident or fortuitous coincidence? I think not. Read it and decide for yourself.

It takes you through a painful and depressing period and tells an ennobling tale about those who fought back against the atrocities of Nazi Germany and restored the pride of the Jewish people and made the seminal moves that led to the creation of the Jewish State. I have read a great deal about World War II & the holocaust but I was unaware that Jewish soldiers actually fought in the last battles & were stationed there after the war. I was surprised that this helped their effort to create the nation of Israel by transporting people & weapons to their country. It was both tragic & inspirational to be a witness to the amazing events that transpired to the birth of a new nation. It took courage & desperation to achieve what they did. It was an honor to be a silent witness to this great event.

Book was timely delivered and in very good condition. Am pleased with this order.This is a captivating history of the forming of the Jewish Brigade by the British during WW II. It outlines the reason why the British formed the brigade, where and how the brigade fought, and its instrumentality in the formation and early defense of the State of Israel. It does this through primarily through the eyes of three participants as well as the sister of one of the participants. It is very interesting to read of how the Brigade transported many displaced Jews at the end of the war and how the wartime experiences of members of the Brigade caused them to become extremely vengeful and how they overcame their morale dilemma. A very interesting, well written and researched book.

Before entering his little recess, he looked back once toward that part of the cave where Mary knelt upon her couch in prayer, her back to him, her face toward the east. He saw the cave filled with the light that streamed from Mary, for she was entirely enveloped as if by flames. It was as if he were, like Moses, looking into the burning bush. He sank prostrate to the ground in prayer, and looked not back again. The glory around Mary became brighter and brighter, the lamps that Joseph had hung were no longer to be seen. Mary knelt, her flowing white robe spread out before her. At the twelfth hour, her prayer became ecstatic, and I saw her raised so far above the ground that one could see it beneath her. Her hands were crossed upon her breast, and the light around her grew even more resplendent. I no longer saw the roof of the cave. Above Mary stretched a pathway of light up to Heaven, in which pathway it seemed as if one light came forth from another, as if one figure dissolved into another and from these different spheres of light other heavenly figures issued. This book is amazing, it gives wonderful information about the life of Our Lady and while the author does not claim that the revelations given to Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich are to be taken as doctrine, like the Bible, it is clear to me at least that the information given in such detail must have come from Heaven. Sometimes you heard a musical note and it rings clear and true and that's the way this book sang to me. I am so glad that I found the books - 'The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ' and 'The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary'. I got answers to questions I have wondered about - how could Jesus be said to be the son of David if Joseph was not his father? The Bible does not reveal that Our Lady was also of the House of David and more directly in line of descent that Joseph. Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich's visions and revelations gives us the full story whereas the Bible give us what we now call 'Headlines'.

Even after 12 years of Catholic education, I had hundreds of questions about the life of the Blessed Virgin. No nun or priest had any answers for me. Then, my current priest mentioned Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich to me. After researching her, I downloaded "The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary." How wonderful to have found the Venerable Sister Emmerich! Her mystic abilities are simply amazing. In her book on the Blessed Virgin Mary, I found ALL the information for which I had been searching! The detailed descriptions are almost photographic. This is the book that led to the finding of the Blessed Virgin's last home, just outside of Ephesus, Turkey, built for her by St. John. I have visited this shrine on four separate occasions, including last summer, when I was able to attend Mass at the house. Sister Emmerich's detailed "word paintings" are extremely vivid - sometimes almost too much so, as in her description of Christ's Passion, from her "The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ," which I also read, and which was the basis of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." In fact, Blessed Sister Emmerich's descriptive powers are so profound that I bought all her books for my Kindle app on my iPad AND also in a set in soft cover! Her knowledge is quite unique, and I don't wonder at her having been beatified by the Catholic church. Her books are the most powerful that I have ever read!!!

My love and appreciation for Mary and Joseph have abounded since reading this book. Although the visions and writings of blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich have not yet been approved by the church, I find this couple's trials and joys, blessings and misfortunes, as well as the simple trust in almighty God to be most inspiring to my own faith. So, whether it is a work of fiction or true inspiration, I have been blessed by the account of their lives.I read this book during Advent, as preparation for Christmas. It really helped me enjoy -even more- the visits by the shepherds, the 3 kings, Mary's mother Anne, the prophets Simeon and Anna. It's as if I were there, present for the birth of our Savior. And what a blessing that was!

If you are serious about doing case study research, I recommend reading this book along with Cresswell's "Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches" and Stake's "Multiple Case Study Analysis."

This may be the go-to resource for conducting case study research, but the book is so poorly edited, it is extremely difficult to read. Spelling errors, left out words, extra words that don't make sense -- mostly many many typos. It appears the editor didn't proofread at all. The content is ok, but often the author appears to seem confused between case study and quantitative. Also, the directions for data collection are helpful, but I would not rely on this as my only authoritative source of how to conduct case study research. Maybe a 6th edition could just take care of the poor writing?

A solid, yet accessible book written by a researcher that everyone ELSE seems to cite as the authority on case study research. Well worth the purchase. Surprise! Case studies can be qualitative, quantitative, or mixed!I enjoyed being able to listen to the book while I drove. The text-to-speech function is not nearly as good as professional narration, but comes in handy when you want to listen & drive.My dissertation will be a study of multiple cases, and I intend to revisit Yin's book to guide me.

As a doctoral student, I purchased this book when a research professor at my university recommended it. I can see why! Since I am considering using the case study process for my dissertation research, this book helped me visualize how it might work. Yin filled the book with cogent examples from many fields, with references to find the original study. These examples were both relatively current and from decades past; this range of times helped me see the growth in the case study process and its breadth of applicability.The book is not a follow-the-numbers process by any means, no cookie-cutter here. Instead, it contains a structured process from beginning to end, including analysis and reporting. Along the way, Yin forces the reader to ask questions and consider the applicability of the case study approach to one's own work.All in all, very helpful and no doubt, it will be a reference for me in years to come.

Getting into research for the first time and had difficulties getting institutional review board's approval to green light my study. This book helped tremendously with understanding conceptual framework and providing insight on how to validate research findings. Earlier editions definitely did not provide explanations as clear as the ones presented in this edition. I highly recommend the Kindle version so that you can just search up keywords. Explanations throughout this book seems to have sifted out a lot of jargon and reading it doesn't feel as patronizing as similar texts by other authors.

Yin is very systematic in his approach to case study research, and this can be very helpful to those learning this. His book is easy to read, and he provides examples and exercises to complete.

Outstanding reference book for case study research. Really helped me for my research study for my dissertation. Was able to truly understand the application of case study methodology.
