Review
This book provides answers to 288 commonly asked questions about the Catholic faith, grouped under the headings of doctrine, worship, the Ten Commandments, prayer, church history, and "this and that." Written by the authors of John Paul II for Dummies and 101 Things Everyone Should Know About the Bible, it is aimed at a popular rather than a scholarly audience. While it does provide some helpful information on the basics of Catholicism, answers sometimes consist of roundabout explanations that could be expressed more succinctly, and some sections are confusing in their inclusion of concepts not directly related to the subject under discussion. Some of the questions seem rather odd, such as whether God created alien life on other planets and whether "daily bread" comes from bakeries, and some of the explanations are somewhat flippant. Sources include the 1997 Catechism of the Catholic Church as well as papal encyclicals and church staples like the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas, which underline the traditional/conservative orientation of this work. Of some interest to public libraries.-Denise J. Stankovics, Rockville P.L., Vernon, CT -- Library Journal, April 1

Love this book so much that I bought many more for Christmas and will again. Answers to my curiosities which leads to more reading = learning = increased interest = better Mass attention = better parenting.Great for any age. Best thing we ever did for our grandkids.
This is a great resource for cradle Catholics, RCIA candidates, neophytes, and even those with a casual, passing interest in Catholicism. If someone tells you something incredulous and erroneous about what the Church actually teaches, you can find the truth in this handy guide. It covers questions from "Who is God?" to "Are Catholics Christian?" Spoiler alert: Catholics ARE Christians, the 1st Christian Church is the Catholic Church.
I purchased this book for our adoration chapel. I noticed it is the most used book on the bookshelf. This book is interesting, informative, easy to read and 100% trustworthy. Highly recommend for anyone interested in learning more about the details and devotions of the Catholic Faith. Even cradle Catholics will learn much, and find better ways to express Catholic teaching to those who ask. Great for the "New Evangelization" of our times. I like this book better than most others written in this format due to the style of writing.
I have purchased three of these books over the last several years. One for myself just to get more informed about catholism. then when I told friends of mine and they were non-practicing Catholics, they wanted one too. So informative in an easy way to understand.
If you are an informed Catholic, the book is a good review of Catholic doctrine. If you are an uninformed Catholic, the book will re-educate you on Catholic doctrine.
Very satisfied with this item.
As its name suggests, "The Catholicism Answer Book" provides answers to common questions Catholics and non-Catholics ask about the Catholic faith. It covers a wide range of topics, from the nature of God to the liturgy to Church history. The answers provided are straightforward, orthodox, and concise. Each response is essentially a mini-essay on the subject under discussion. Controversial topics are handled exceptionally well, including questions concerning the Crusades, the Protestant movement, the all-male and celibate priesthood, and Latin in the liturgy. The book would be especially useful to those considering reception into the Church, since it covers areas "cradle" Catholics may take for granted. Trigilio and Brighenti infuse the text with their characteristic wit and humor; a question on liturgical movements and gestures is entitled "Why all the Catholic calisthenics?"That said, it would have benefited from a better editor. There are a handful of typos, including the misspelling of Origen's name. The book also confuses the Great Schism, a period during which French kings moved the papacy to Avignon France and three "popes" claimed the chair of Peter, with the Eastern Schism, the eleventh-century split between Catholicism and the Eastern churches. Although some historians use the term "Great Schism" to describe either event, here it is used in reference to both (cf: questions 211 and 218.) Hopefully, these errors will be corrected in a subsequent edition of this otherwise commendable book.
Will use this book, to increase my faith!
