We haven't taste-tested any recipes, but we love the layout of this book and the recipes that are in it. After we've taste-tested some recipes, will update this review and rating.Pros:- pictures- numerous side bar tips for variations to the basic recipe- twists to some classics, like Thai Sloppy Joes, Thai meatloaf, Lemongrass Vegetable Soup, Thai Spaghetti and Meatballs, Meatballs in Peanut Sauce, Carrots in Mango juice, etc.- covers the basics - curry pastes, marinades, sauces and dips- no exotic ingredients or vegetables - supermarket basics (ok, maybe an occasional trip to the Asian market).Cons:- want more high caliber recipes like these = book is short (really intended as a compliment to the author)
If I buy a cookbook, you know it's gotta be good.(I hate plunking down money for recipes!) However, i checked this out at the library first and right away, knew I had to have it. If you're a fan of Thai food, then this is the cookbook to buy. I must have read 20 or more Thai cookbooks before I purchased this book, but this one was the easiest to understand and replicate in an American home kitchen. LOTS of great recipes.Great cookbook!
Cooking my way through this great cookbook. I took it out of the library first and after a few recipes I knew I had to have it. Every recipe has been great and I'm a retired chef so I can vouch for the flavors and easy to read directions. I never get tired of Thai food and thes recipes are better than most Thai restaurant lid.
Great cookbook!
I have made 3 recipes so far and they have been great. My goal is to make recipes that are so delish, that my family no longer wants to eat at restaurants. I made garlic shrimp last nite and it was a winner.
Nice Thai recipes for trying at home, all of which have delighted me so far.
This is a great book for anyone who loves Thai food and wants to learn to make some od the dishes.
My husband and I love Thai food. We purchased several Thai and Asian cookbooks, but their complexity, ingredients, and organization were daunting for 2 newbies to Asian cooking. Then we chanced upon Linda Stephen's Complete Book of Thai Cooking. Attractive features include the color coded organization for each section of the cookbook, colorful photos scattered throughout, the very well designed page layout which clarifies the ingredients, usually 2-4 step directions, variations, and helpful comments. This user-friendly pattern makes it a breeze to follow the recipes. We started with the "Crispy Cucumber Salad." Delightful and easy! Next came "Scallops and Shrimp with Lemongrass and Coconut Milk." Wow! Scrumptious! My husband loves mussels, so "Mussels in Coconut Broth" became a weekly appetizer when mussels were available. We both love the simplicity of the recipes coupled with tasty results. By adding a few ingredients to our pantry and fridge such as oyster sauce, fish sauce, coconut milk, fresh lemon grass and other ingredients as needed, we have built a foundation for many of the recipes. We have substituted lemon grass paste when we couldn't find fresh. Many ingredients turned out to be things that we usually have on hand such as fresh limes, cilantro, and red chilies. There are a few items to buy with some of the new recipes we try, but we find that most of the items are things we would probably buy anyway. We just wouldn't have been as adventuresome with seasonings and other additions. This has become our favorite cookbook and has really jazzed up our weekly menus. We were so excited about the recipes that we purchased a copy for each of our 3 adult children. Finally banishing our fear of cooking Thai, I am sure that we will work our way through the complete book before long. Thank you, Linda Stephen, for an easy introduction to Thai cooking!
