I read this book, underlined it and liked it so much that I bought a second copy so I would have a clean one. This book is a sister to the Think Python and Think Java books. It is an excellent introduction to both Programming Ideas and to Perl6.The author writes in a clear manner and this book was well edited. I recommend it to anyone looking to learn about programming ideas. I also think it would be excellent for an introductory university class on programming.
I had the chance to read an early copy of the manuscript, and I was impressed by the clarity with which it presents basic programming concepts.The book is based on Allan Downey's book "Think Python", and benefits from Downey's long year of teaching experience.It focuses on the basics of programming and computer science, and treats Perl 6 as a tool to learn the basic skills: understanding how to make machines do what you want, how to structure your code, find the source of errors etc. You can't learn to code simply by reading a book, so a plethora of exercises encourage the reader to play with the material covered, and get a feeling for how to achieve things in computer code.
