After we've taste-tested some recipes, will update this review and rating.Pros:- pictures- numerous side bar tips for variations to the basic recipe- twists to some classics, like Thai Sloppy Joes, Thai meatloaf, Lemongrass Vegetable Soup, Thai Spaghetti and Meatballs, Meatballs in Peanut Sauce, Carrots in Mango juice, etc.- covers the basics - curry pastes, marinades, sauces and dips- no exotic ingredients or vegetables - supermarket basics (ok, maybe an occasional trip to the Asian market).Cons:- want more high caliber recipes like these = book is short (really intended as a compliment to the author)

If I buy a cookbook, you know it's gotta be good.(I hate plunking down money for recipes!) However, i checked this out at the library first and right away, knew I had to have it. If you're a fan of Thai food, then this is the cookbook to buy. I must have read 20 or more Thai cookbooks before I purchased this book, but this one was the easiest to understand and replicate in an American home kitchen. LOTS of great recipes.Great cookbook!

Cooking my way through this great cookbook. I took it out of the library first and after a few recipes I knew I had to have it. Every recipe has been great and I'm a retired chef so I can vouch for the flavors and easy to read directions. I never get tired of Thai food and thes recipes are better than most Thai restaurant lid.

I have made 3 recipes so far and they have been great. My goal is to make recipes that are so delish, that my family no longer wants to eat at restaurants. I made garlic shrimp last nite and it was a winner.

Nice Thai recipes for trying at home, all of which have delighted me so far.

This is a great book for anyone who loves Thai food and wants to learn to make some od the dishes.

My husband and I love Thai food. We purchased several Thai and Asian cookbooks, but their complexity, ingredients, and organization were daunting for 2 newbies to Asian cooking. Then we chanced upon Linda Stephen's Complete Book of Thai Cooking. Attractive features include the color coded organization for each section of the cookbook, colorful photos scattered throughout, the very well designed page layout which clarifies the ingredients, usually 2-4 step directions, variations, and helpful comments. This user-friendly pattern makes it a breeze to follow the recipes. We started with the "Crispy Cucumber Salad." Delightful and easy! Next came "Scallops and Shrimp with Lemongrass and Coconut Milk." Wow! Scrumptious! My husband loves mussels, so "Mussels in Coconut Broth" became a weekly appetizer when mussels were available. We both love the simplicity of the recipes coupled with tasty results. By adding a few ingredients to our pantry and fridge such as oyster sauce, fish sauce, coconut milk, fresh lemon grass and other ingredients as needed, we have built a foundation for many of the recipes. We have substituted lemon grass paste when we couldn't find fresh. Many ingredients turned out to be things that we usually have on hand such as fresh limes, cilantro, and red chilies. There are a few items to buy with some of the new recipes we try, but we find that most of the items are things we would probably buy anyway. We just wouldn't have been as adventuresome with seasonings and other additions. This has become our favorite cookbook and has really jazzed up our weekly menus. We were so excited about the recipes that we purchased a copy for each of our 3 adult children. Finally banishing our fear of cooking Thai, I am sure that we will work our way through the complete book before long. Thank you, Linda Stephen, for an easy introduction to Thai cooking!

I have this for a class, but I would recommend it for people who enjoy learning about past civilizations and also how the different religions came about.

I never thought that I would actually enjoy a textbook. It is very well written and descriptive. Everything that is discussed has a photo reference as well. The rental process was so easy and affordable as well.

I currently using this for an intro to Humanities class and it is an excellent resource and easy to understand. I just might keep this one because I like the approach of the author and his balanced perspective.

Not my favorite book to read, but the rental experience was great.

The book is in very poor shape. Black marker scribbles along edge. Front cover is wrinkled. Spine has gouges. Spine has section ripped out.

But Jane finds Ivy the person rather than the case subject.While the tale of Jane and Ivy forms the heart of a terrific story, the author skillfully brings in attitudes of the late fifties, early sixties about a woman's place in a polite southern society. Jane defies these expectations by valuing a career enjoying sex, and acting with courage and determination on her job and in her personal life. Super tale!

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. Why? Because the author has created strong, believable characters through whom we see the terrible impact North Carolina's sterilization program had on the lives on innocent people. [Over 7000 people were sterilized between 1929 and 1975.] There are two primary narrators of the story: Ivy, a lively 15 years old girl, living on a tobacco plantation as a member of a poor tenant farming family. And Jane, a 22 year old social worker who has just been assigned to work with this family. Jane is so new to the 'System', that she hasn't accepted what is considered normal by the older social workers. She finds herself appalled by what the System has done to Ivy's older sister... and is threatening to do to Ivy... sterilization. This is a powerful story that needs to be to be told. The second set of my gold stars would go to the author, Diane Chamberlain, who has crafted this novel with great skill. She lays the foundation for what is to come in subtle ways from the very beginning. As a reader, you are discovering disturbing truths throughout the novel. In that way, it's a real page-turner. Another brilliant aspect of this novel is that the author creates characters who are flawed, as are we all, and yet they have good qualities. Most people aren't all bad or all good, and yet it requires a strong moral compass to discern the best course of action in each situation. This is a story of human failings by people who have good intentions. It is also the story about an incredible act of courage by a young social worker, who cares about her clients.

This novel exceeded my already high expectations, and is historical fiction at it's best. I'm always drawn to America's dirty little secrets, and here we have N. Carolina's eugenics program in the 1960's. Chamberlain does an excellent job focusing in on one specific family and the impact this program has on their lives.The main character, Jane, follows her heart to become a social worker against her husbands wishes (and later demands) to be a housewife and baby maker. She soon learns that this job requires more than just providing help to needy families. The state of N. Carolina (the only state to do so) has put the power in the social worker's hands to decide whether certain so-called feeble-minded or poverty stricken women should be sterilized (and yes, even if women are raped, or forced out of necessity, it is most always women). Jane becomes passionately involved with one particular family who's lives are already deeply embedded in this program before she officially takes on their case. She becomes the only hope for this family, and once again her own beliefs are at odds with those of her society and employer.Chamberlain shows through story, not only the horrors of our recent past, but also the hope we have when we choose to treat others fairly and equally. I loved the link provided in the "author's note." It shows recent hearings in N. Carolina to determine compensation for survivors. To see and hear actual survivors recount their stories is something I will never forget.

I've been having some problems with my liver, read a lot of books about liver detox and I can say that this book surprised me. I've read a lot of 200-300 page books, but all of them are like 80% what to do and 20% how to do it.This book is totally different, it's short and straight to the point, so you don't have to waste your time reading 200+ pages books. Its cover, in detail, everything you need to know about liver detox. It goes very deep into diet part, tells you what to eat at breakfast, dinner, lunch and what snacks you should eat. Also, it provides super foods that are extremely effective for liver detox. The one drawback of this book is that it's a little bit too short, but other than that it's amazingly goodI would recommend this book to anyone who wants to cleanse their liver for good

This booklet gives you the fundamentals of cleansing and detox. I don't know why doctors do not recommend this enough. There's nothing wrong with their view. It's just that Doctors cannot recommend something that has not been FDA approved. I do suggest everyone to try it at least once in their lives.

I bought this book because I am super into health. I think that diet is important for maintaining high energy levels. Every time I do a detox my diet gets shifted back on track, and I have massive amounts of energy. This book was perfect for what I was looking for.

I wish I had this book in college, but better late than never!

I suffer from gall stones, and this book seemed like the perfect solution. This book offered many different types of cleanses and diets to choose from, and even gives you guidelines to follow in arranging your own diet.
